CSMA Local Area Networking under Dynamic Altruism

چکیده
In this paper, we consider medium access control of local area networks (LANs) under limitedinformation conditions as befits a distributed system. Rather than assuming “by rule” conformance to a protocol designed to regulate packet-flow rates (e.g., CSMA windowing), we begin with a noncooperative game framework and build a dynamic altruism term into the net utility. The effects of altruism are analyzed at Nash equilibrium for both the ALOHA and CSMA frameworks in the quasistationary (fictitious play) regime. We consider either power or throughput based costs of networking, and the cases of identical or heterogeneous (independent) users/players. In a numerical study we consider diverse players, and we see that the effects of altruism for similar players can be beneficial in the presence of significant congestion, but excessive altruism may lead to underuse of the channel when demand is low.

متن کاملAccess to Hidden Terminal Problem Using Channel Tone Multiple Access
Wireless Networking is one of the fastest growing areas in the network industry today. Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are gaining special interest as they provide flexibility of location along with low infrastructural and maintenance costs. The hidden terminal problem is unique to wireless networks that decrease the performance of the network. In this paper we propose a new MAC protocol t...
متن کاملPerformance of Total Vector Error of an Estimated Phasor within Local Area Networks
This paper evaluates the Total Vector Error of an estimated Phasor as define in IEEE C37.118 standard within different medium access in Local Area Networks (LAN). Three different LAN models (CSMA/CD, CSMA/AMP and Switched Ethernet) are evaluated. The Total Vector Error of the estimated Phasor has been evaluated for the effect of Nodes Number under the standardized network Band-width values defi...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) Protocols for Wireless Local Area Networks in Multipath and Shadowing Environments
The channel throughput and packet delay of wireless media access control (MAC) protocols with Rayleigh fading, shadowing and capture effect are analyzed. We consider CSMA/CA protocols as the wireless MAC protocols, since CSMA/CA protocols are based on the standard for wireless Local Area Networks (LANs) IEEE 802.11. We analyze the channel throughput and packet delay for three types of CSMA/CA p...
